What happens at Ky Hoa Dental

An X-ray is taken to assess the pulp and the roots
Local anaesthetic is given, the pulp chamber is opened and the inflamed tissue removed
The root canal system is shaped and disinfected (this may take more than one appointment)
The canals are sealed and the crown of the tooth is restored
A crown may be recommended to protect a tooth that has lost a lot of structure

Does root canal treatment hurt?

The dentist gives a local anaesthetic before starting, which considerably limits what you feel during treatment. Once the anaesthetic wears off the tooth may feel tender for a few days, easing gradually.

Why treat the root canal instead of extracting the tooth?

Keeping your natural tooth is better for chewing and for keeping the neighbouring teeth stable. Extraction is only considered when a tooth can no longer be restored.

How many appointments does root canal treatment take?

It depends on the degree of infection and the number of canals in the tooth, so it may take one appointment or several. The dentist will give you an estimate at the first visit.
