Does scaling wear down tooth enamel?

The ultrasonic tip works on the tartar deposits sitting on the tooth surface rather than grinding the enamel. Any sensitivity during the appointment usually comes from inflamed gums or exposed tooth necks and settles afterwards.

How often should I have my teeth scaled?

Roughly every six months for most people. Smokers, heavy tea or coffee drinkers and patients with periodontal disease may need it more often, as advised by the dentist.
